AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Governments, the business sector and community organisations recognise that housing affordability is an issue of significant community concern.  The growing cost of housing is having a serious impact on many Australians to meet their financial commitments.  Affordable housing is available to those who are in housing stress in the private rental market and who are ineligible for department managed (public) housing. It is targeted to working individuals and families on low incomes.  The National Rental Affordability Scheme (NRAS) is provided by the Commonwealth government and designed to provide affordable housing. The NRAS scheme is for people who are:

• Workers and families on low to moderate incomes experiencing private market rental housing stress.
• Workers on single incomes.

There are a number of steps to be completed before you can acquire a property through the National Rental Affordabiity Scheme (NRAS):

• For an NRAS application form, please go to: NRAS Tenancy Application If you are eligible for NRAS, the Queensland Department of Housing will issue you with an NRAS approval number.Your NRAS ID Number must be used with any NRAS tenancy application..
• Mangrove Housing requires you to complete and submit a Mangrove NRAS Application Form
• Mangrove Housing's Property manager will then contact you to discuss any matters pertaining to your application.

You can still follow the steps above in preparation for any upcoming properties.

Q What if my application is unsuccessful

A If you are not initially selected as a tenant by the tenancy manager, the department will keep you listed for future vacancies and will continue to refer your details to the tenancy manager each time a vacancy arises. NRAS future vacancies
